Jan Říčný, PhD, CSc. graduated from the Faculty of Science of the J. E. Purkyně University (now Masaryk University) in Brno (1970-1975) and after completing his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Physiology of the CAS in Prague, he continued as a researcher in 1976-2007, focusing on the neurochemistry of the nervous (especially cholinergic) system. He completed several international internships (18 months at Pharmacology and Therapeutics, McGill University, Montreal; 6 months at Max-Planck Institut für Biophysikalische Chemie, Göttingen; 2 years at Anatomisches Institut, Arbeitsgruppe Neurochemie, Institut fur Physiologische Chemie und Pathobiochemie, Johannes-Gutenberg Universität Mainz). In 2007 he joined the Psychiatric Centre Prague and after its move to Klecany (as the successor of the National Institute of Mental Health) he continues his work mainly focused on neurodegenerative disorders. He is author/co-author of about 80 scientific publications, principal investigator/co-investigator of a number of grants and supervisor of several master and doctoral students.
