Thematic orientation: ABEP serves as a key platform for non-invasive electrophysiological methods (EEG, QEEG, ERP, hdEEG) which allow the evaluation of miscellaneous brain processes with a high (milliseconds) temporal resolution (neuronal oscillations, distributed electromagnetic source analysis, functions of the neuronal circuits under normal and pathological conditions, information processing, temporal and spatial relations of region-specific activities, functional and effective connectivity and its changes during cognitive paradigms, disconnectivity in the broad spectrum of mental and neurological disorders etc.).
Together with the neuroimaging (PET, fMRI), functional (rTMS), neuropsychological and behavioural findings, ABEP contributes to the clarification of open issues in the dynamics of complex brain functioning under normal and pathological conditions, as well as in terms of changes elicited by various therapeutic approaches (pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, rTMS, tDCS etc.).
Working groups on preclinical and clinical neurophysiology form innovative concepts interlinking the advances in basic neuropsychiatric and cognitive research with the appropriate clinical applications (improvement of the diagnostics of various mental disorders by means of newly developed diagnostic markers and neurophysiological indicators, development of a comprehensive system with early predictors of therapeutic response to a broad spectrum of various treatment interventions).
Goal of the program
The primary goal of the program is to create the best workplace for research in the dynamics of complex brain processes under normal and pathological conditions and changes induced by different therapeutic procedures (pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, rTMS, tDCs etc.).
Partial goals include:
To create a modern electrophysiological workplace with the possibility register animal and human EEG dates and be equipped with among others a high-density EEG compatible with an MRI environment.
To create a young team of specialists in electrophysiology focused on neuropsychiatric and cognitive research and its clinical applications.
To study the electrophysiological characteristics of patients with mental disorders as well as those at risk mental illness, the development of early diagnostic markers and neurophysiological.
In collaboration with the commercial sector and the application sphere transfer the electrophysiological findings of basic research into clinical and manufacturing practice.
