Addiction studies

Research of the prevalence, trends and social inequalities in the health risk behavior of the Czech population, with a specific focus on the use of addictive substances. The main goal is the analysis and monitoring of the relevant trends at the population level. The specific goal is a structurally differentiated approach, with regard to different demographic, social, and socio-spatially defined population groups.

Main goals:

  • ascertaining the prevalence of substance use (tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption and illicit drug use) in both adolescent and adult populations; assessment of determinants of health-risk forms of drug use;
  • evaluating long-term trends in substance use; analysis of factors that contribute to changes in the prevalence of substance use;
  • carrying out comparative analyzes of the use of addictive substances in the Czech Republic and EU countries;
  • research focused on addiction risks in minority population groups (especially sexual minorities).
