Dr. Freund worked as a researcher in Psychiatric Research Institute between the years 1961-1968, holding the positions of research deputy director and head of neuropsychopathology department. His thoroughness and punctuality earned him nomination to the Institute‘s methodology board. In the course of his work in research and education he dealt with personality disorders and later focused on psychiatric sexology, male homosexuality in particular. His studies contributed to decriminalization of homosexuality. After 1968 he left the country for Germany and then Canada. He laid the foundations of a sexual motivation system theory, that explains some paraphilias. He is considered inventor of phalloplethysmography.
