Vlcek is Ph.D. student of neuroscience at Charles University, 3rd Faculty of Medicine. He is involved in research activities in the NIMH, especially in the field of pharmaco-EEG.He is interested in sensory gating and its characteristic changes in psychiatric disorders. Sensory gating is measurable by using evoked potentials (e.g. P50). It can be modified by psychopharmacological influence. With regard to this fact, it is useful to combine neuroimaging methods (MRI) with EEG to study influence of drugs on sensory gating. His another concern is the topic of synergistic effect of NMDA receptor antagonists with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and the effect of this synergy on animal EEG. He is also interested in the research project studying the predictive ability of prefrontal theta cordance to predict treatment response in antimanic treatment of bipolar disorder.
