Mood disorder: neurobiology, diagnostics, treatment and comprehensive care

Head of the department

doc. MUDr. Martin Bareš, Ph.D.

Mood disorders (depressive disorder, bipolar disorder etc.) are prevalent illnesses that are frequently associated with significant disability, morbidity, and mortality. Although a number

of   treatment options are available, no single treatment is universally effective and most individuals with mood disorders  undergo multiple treatments before achieving remission.

The research task of working group is to test the efficacy of new treatment approaches and methods  as well as to detect and evaluate ability of various factors (clinical, neurophysiological, biochemical etc.) in the prediction of treatment outcome with pharmacological or non-pharmacological interventions in mood disorders. The study comparing efficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and venlafaxine in the treatment of depressive disorders is currently recruiting participants.

The new project evaluating efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation in the treatment of bipolar depression will be launched during 2016.
