Biomarkery a animální modely Alzheimerovy demence

The focus of our group is the research and identification of new biomarkers for early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer‘s disease and related dementias. For our studies, we use clinical samples and autopsy tissue from human patients and animal models. The overarching goal is to find out new, more specific and sensitive biochemical markers for devastating neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, and to extensively validate and compare the new biomarkers with traditional indicators such as amyloid beta peptide and its fragments, various variants of the protein tau. In parallel, we carry our extensive research of brain tissue extracts (including body fluids) from drug-induced or transgenic animal models of Alzheimer disease, to relate changes with those occurring in the brain of MCI and clinical Alzheimer‘s disease. Finally, together with our collaborators, we evaluate the effects of most promising drug candidates in animal models, with the main focus on acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, to determine their pharmacokinetic profile, potential ameliorative effects with toxicity.
