Profile

The main goal of the program is clinically oriented research into the neurobiological foundations of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders and cognitive disorders. It uses a comprehensive integration of clinical data with the results of neuropsychological, electrophysiological and brain imaging examinations to clarify the nature of mental disorders and the associated more precise targeting of treatment procedures. The research program provides a top workplace for research into the dynamics of complex brain processes under normal and pathological conditions and changes induced by various therapeutic procedures.

The department is a key base for the application of a wide range of electrophysiological and neuroimaging methods (high-density EEG, MRI/fMRI) studying diverse brain events (neuronal oscillations, brain perfusion changes, sources of electromagnetic activity, functional and effective connectivity) and their disruption in neuropsychiatric diseases, with the aim of developing early diagnostic indicators and predictors of treatment interventions. Thanks to the connection of imaging, stimulation and behavioral methods, it contributes to the detection, prevention and remediation of cognitive deficits as a risk factor for functional disability.

The research program also provides support in the field of neurophysiological methods, MRI examinations and analyzes to projects of other NIMH research centers and also focuses on the use of modern non-invasive stimulation methods in brain research and therapy of mental disorders.
