Come and experience the unique atmosphere and see how science is done in the unique premises of the National Institute of Mental Health. On Friday, September 26, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., we will join European Researchers Night for the first time, a Europe-wide science popularization event that opens the doors of laboratories and research institutions to the public.
This year's theme: WEALTH
Only a society that uses the wealth of the mind is truly wealthy. A society that treats cultural and natural wealth wisely and uses technology for its development. Come with us to discover the hidden treasures of science in all its forms!
Friday, September 26, from 5 p.m. at the National Institute of Mental Health (Topolová 748, Klecany)
You can easily reach us by bus 371 or 374, it is about a 15-minute ride from the Kobylisy metro station. Get off at the Klecany, U Hřbitova stop and walk uphill towards the water tower. If you are coming by car, you can park in the adjacent free parking lot next to the cemetery.
FREE entry. Funded by the European Union within the MSCA Metamorphosis project.
PROGRAM:
- 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. discussion Tea with a Researcher: Come chat with our scientists and take advantage of the opportunity to ask anything you might not want to ask in front of an audience in a lecture hall in an informal atmosphere.
- 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. workshop Treasure Hunt through the NUDZ Laboratories: Tour the laboratories of the National Institute of Mental Health and see how we do research, and you might even find treasure at the end of your journey. You must reserve your spot here.
- 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. lecture The Brain and the Experience of Self: What Happens When It Breaks Down? Dr. Filip Španiel, Ph.D., head of the Early Episodes of SMI Research Center, will talk about the mysteries of schizophrenia.
- 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m lecture Amazing science combining nanomedicine and AI to cure Alzheimer's disease in NUDZ: Join us on a journey into brain research, where researchers of the Experimental Neurobiology group at NUDZ are combining nanomedicine and artificial intelligence to cure Alzheimer’s disease. This exciting research opens up new avenues for creating smarter treatments and bringing hope for a healthier future. Prepared by Jaison Jeevanandam, Ph.D.
-
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. lecture The Use of Virtual Reality in Mental Health Care: Projects focused on the use of virtual reality in mental health care will be presented by Markéta Jablonská.
-
5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. workshop Walking in virtual reality: Motion VR platform: Come and try walking in virtual reality! The Center for Virtual Reality Research at NUDZ will present a special VR motion platform called KAT Walk, which can capture and transfer your walking into a virtual environment. You can try out our interactive application developed for research purposes for yourself. We will show you how such technologies can be used in scientific studies focused on mental health.
-
5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. workshop Demonstrations of VR applications for anxiety disorders: come and try out VR applications developed at NUDZ. Try training your memory and attention in cognitive games, or test your fear of heights, confined spaces, or flying in a virtual city. In a virtual home environment, you can test your reactions to excessive pollution, danger, asymmetry, or accumulated clutter. The program also includes relaxation breathing exercises using a breathing belt, which helps reduce stress and induce a feeling of calm.
-
6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. lecture Treasure trove of experimental samples: Wealth is not just about money and intellectual property. It is also a long-term treasure in the form of a large number of experimental samples from clinical studies. For 15 years, NUDZ has been recruiting patients with a first episode of psychosis, from whom we collect blood samples, gather information, and perform magnetic resonance imaging. During the lecture, you will learn how valuable the samples are to scientists and how they can help us find new possibilities for the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia. The lecture will be given by RNDr. Aneta Šmídová, Ph.D., from the Early Episodes of SMI Research Center.
The program is not yet complete, and more events will be added. Follow the European Researchers Night´s website or our Facebook event.
