Kateřina Klapilová Elected Chair of the Czech Society for Sexual Medicine
Dr. Klapilová, Head of the Centre for Sexual Health and Interventions at the National Institute of Mental Health, was elected Chair of the Czech Society for Sexual Medicine in May 2026. In her new role, she aims to strengthen multidisciplinary care for patients, support young researchers, and increase the visibility of female members of the society in the public sphere.
Mgr. Kateřina Klapilová, Ph.D., ECPS was elected Chair of the Czech Society for Sexual Medicine during the Society’s symposium held on 29–30 May 2026. Dr. Klapilová currently heads the Centre for Sexual Health and Interventions at the National Institute of Mental Health.
She is the first woman in the history of the Society to be elected to this position. During her term, she intends to further strengthen the Society’s multidisciplinary character, systematically support early-career professionals, and firmly establish psychosexology as an integral part of sexual medicine. She also plans to continue developing the Society’s international connections, bring current European standards into Czech practice, and reinforce the Society’s role as a respected partner in the development of professional and public strategies in the field of sexual health.
Dr. Klapilová brings continuity, strong international links, extensive experience in coordinating complex projects, and a female perspective to the leadership of a professional society that addresses issues of intimacy, relationships, and social responsibility.

Mgr. Kateřina Klapilová, Ph.D., ECPS is Head of the Centre for Sexual Health and Interventions at the National Institute of Mental Health. She received her PhD in medical psychology and psychopathology from the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. She holds the European Certified Psychosexuologist certificate awarded by ESSM and has completed a number of specialised psychotherapeutic trainings.
She is the guarantor of PARAFILIK, an accredited programme and training course focused on working with individuals at increased risk of problematic sexual behaviour. The programme has had a systemic impact in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. She regularly conducts representative surveys of sexual health and behaviour in the Czech population, providing reference data for sexual medicine in the Czech Republic.
For more than 15 years, Dr Klapilová has been engaged in research in the fields of sexual medicine and psychosexology. She has a strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in international collaboration. Her long-term work connects the clinical, research, and preventive dimensions of the field. She collaborates with stakeholders across sectors, including healthcare, the interior ministry, labour and social affairs, justice, and the police. She is also the guarantor of Sexhelp, the National Helpline for Sexual and Gender Health. She has served on the Board of the Czech Society for Sexual Medicine as Scientific Secretary since 2015.
