Official Statement on the Availability of Psilocybin Treatment

In light of the legislative changes adopted in 2025, the National Institute of Mental Health hereby provides an updated statement on the process of introducing psilocybin-assisted therapy into clinical practice.

Legislative Framework and Legal Continuity

In 2025, the Parliament of the Czech Republic approved a government bill amending the Criminal Code (Act No. 40/2009 Coll.) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Act No. 141/1961 Coll.). This major legislative change, effective as of 1 January 2026, formally allows the administration of therapeutic psilocybin in specialised healthcare facilities. However, the actual launch of this treatment still depends on the completion of several follow-up processes.

Procedural and Economic Context

Despite the new legislative framework, the immediate availability of this treatment method remains contingent upon the finalisation of reimbursement conditions. Intensive work is currently underway to define the economic parameters and funding rules necessary to ensure that this demanding form of care is systematically accessible and fully integrated into the standards of public health insurance.

For these reasons, we kindly ask for your patience. At this time, it is not yet possible to apply for psilocybin treatment or to register for a waiting list. The launch of treatment is expected in the second half of 2026. We will provide updates both on this website and through public service media.

Thank you for your understanding of this complex process, the aim of which is to ensure the highest possible quality and safety of the care provided.

Yours sincerely,

The Management of the National Institute of Mental Health
